I'll add that to my list...

Tranzalpine-Franz Josef 548

This week I've been feeling a bit off. I'm not really sure what it is. I feel a bit stressed out for no apparent reason.

I was expecting to have a hard time adjusting to this new downtime I thought I would have. After a year of wedding planning, then the wedding, the holidays and finally our honeymoon I thought I would feel sort of let down. I find this blog is like post-wedding/honeymoon therapy as it lets me re-live the events each time I post about them. Its made for a much easier transition.

I thought after all of it was over I might be bored. That is not the case. As a chronic list writer I planned ahead for things I wanted to get done (that I would finally have the time to do) and here I am... neck deep in to do lists that aren't getting crossed off fast enough.

I really want to get organized so I've been following this book called "One Year to an Organized Life" by Regina Leeds. Basically, you tackle one thing a week for a year to get organzied. I'm actually really enjoying it. Some of you out there will think I'm already organized. I call this selective organization. It means I was extremely organized for the wedding but cannot necessarily find the blue jacket I wanted to wear tonight. I might have an excel spreadsheet of my budget but I can't find my baking pans.

I have a million little projects on my to do list. Things like putting a photo album together for the wedding and everything that went along with it. Don't even get me started on the boxes of pictures I have sitting in the spare room. I need to get brushed up on my grammar (my apologies, I have no idea what to do with commas). I'd love to build a better blog to separate my posts into categories, I suppose what I want is a website. I think I have an etsy shop in the works. Any ideas on a name for a vintage shoppe? I have to do something with all these estate sale finds. I still have to create, print and write my wedding thank you cards.

I've been so busy planning that I just stopped doing. They aren't even things that are really pressing. I just have this sudden urge to get all my projects done and all my ducks in a row.

Ah, I feel better already. Sometimes I need to just take a step back and breathe before I jump in again.

What do you do to get motivated? How do you keep organized?

  1. oh gosh, I'm soooo DIS-organised and I hate it! I'll take a look at that book. I can entirely relate to the feeling of being all planning but no action - I think that's what gets me into trouble - my nasty trait of being queen of good intentions but lame at carrying them out.

New look blog looks great by the way! xxx

  2. My best motivation was having the stroke. I didn't want to leave unfinished messes for my girls. Almost 4 years post stroke--it is gaining on me again. I really don't think I want to have another stroke, just to get organized! :) Seriously, I think you are already about 100 steps ahead of me!

  3. Oh I've been working on organizing photos for a few years now, working on it slowly, I keep telling myself to work on it an hour or two a day and it will get done. Still working on it. Like you, I've started to list things I want to get done on a daily basis.

  4. I love to be organized but it can be a fault at times. I admit I may be a little (or a lot) OCD and definitely anal at times but with a full time job and twins..well, I've learned I have to let go sometimes but organization begets organization. Once I have an area cleaned up and organized like our closets and cupboards I find it easier to keep them organized and generally it spreads to other areas of the house and life. Then I get sick or super busy and I fall back. That used to bother me but not so much anymore. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff. I have a list too of things I'd like to get done. Right now I'm panicking that I won't accomplish what I want before spring arrives and the gardens call but as long as I'm accomplishing something I now realize that's all that matters.

    Be well ~Andrea~

  5. I'm organized in some ways, but totally disorganized in most others... so not the person to give advice.

You moved things around in your blog...? :)

  6. Oh I'm right there with ya. To a normal person I get a lot done. I blog and go to the gym and keep up a house and craft etc... But if you only knew the projects that I have going on and the lists of things I want to do. I never feel on top of anything. I need to focus and have some follow through. Nice to know I'm not alone. Maybe I need that book!

  7. Dude I am so a selective organizer. My checking account is TO THE PENNY all the time, and I can tell you exactly what assignments my Child has due, but I can NEVER find my scissors. Ever.

    Like the new layout, very...

    Um, organized! :) hahaha

  8. My ability to be motivated and organized comes and goes. Right now I am not sure where it went. So I understand what you are saying but I think you are much more organized than I ever thought of being. I hope you find a good place to settle.

  10. I remember feeling that way after having my baby, feeling like i couldn't get enough done, and I needed it all done now...I think I started with thank you notes, that felt good cause I needed people to know I cared first and foremost and then I started on the personal things...but all in all it will never all get done at once, ya know! As for a shoppe name...Spontaneous Vintage! :) atleast you know it won't be taken~

  11. How do I keep organized...well asking a Virgo that is like asking how I keep breathing. ;-) Lol. But seriously, I like to make lists, and excel sheets much like you do. Then I pick a task and set to it. So I would pick one thing you want to do and get it done. Then the rest will follow. What motivates me is knowing I got something accomplished.

  12. Oh, I don't even print photos anymore! Considering that I take an average of 300 photos a week, image the mess that would be! Don't worry, I'm probably way more disorganized than you are! Hope that makes you feel better:)

  13. Sorry about the deleted comment above, but I also have had issues with organization. I was writing way too much for a comment, so you gave me an idea for a post.
YOU are THE most organized person! You'll get into your groove!!!

  14. I am a librarian by training and VERY organized in my professional world. But there is a 5 gallon crock in my living room filled with photos that I am going to sort and make scrapbooks for ... someday......

  15. I'm not organized any more. It's a sad sad state of affairs here. I used to be so put together. But 3 tasmanian devils live in this house now. Why do they all hate organization? Why?
