Baby Mia's Nursery

IMG_0415

I'm totally in love with baby Mia's nursery. I love the modern style.

I love that it's for a little girl and it's not pink.

IMG_0433

Can she be any more adorable? Remember Mia's mom Joanne?

Joanne had a brunch at her house and there were 4 little cuties there... but I'll show you that tomorrow.

Picnik collage

I have a thing for owls and this one is awesome.

IMG_0410

The colors are fresh and clean, the patterns are super cute.

I've also had my eye on those decals forever, you know how I love birch.

IMG_0397

Speaking of super cute... meet Samantha!

Picnik collage

Her room is so neat and organized and clutter free I feel like cleaning mine now.
The thing about modern rooms is that you need to be able to edit out extras.

I'm horrible at editing. I want to include everything which is why I have a gazillion pictures in a post. Luckily I've learned to go to picnik to make collages.

IMG_0400

The fact is that their entire house has the same clean, modern feel. Like being in a spa.

Maybe instead of cleaning and organizing I'll see if I can move in with Joanne and her husband. I'm sure he won't mind.

*I almost forgot to mention that the chair cover was made from some drapes that Joanne bought! She didn't want to use the drapes as drapes but wanted to incorporate the material. I think that's genius and a great way to personalize and make stylish a simple glider.

Peanut's Room, Part Two

IMG_6835

I've only showed you one wall of Peanut's room in my previous post but I didn't forget about the tour!

IMG_3184

OK so I forgot to take before picture until after I had already started to take everything apart. Originally this wall held two of these bookshelves stacked with books. It doesn't look like it but the 2nd shelf fit to the right under the overhang from the blinds.

IMG_6839

Thank you B's parents for the dresser! It's also from Ikea and fit well into the style I was looking for. I decided against a changing table and opted to put a changing pad on this dresser as it was the right height.

IMG_6842

Before I had even cleared out this room I knew I wanted to decorate it with some interesting bicycle art.

So I got on etsy and really the rest is all history. Things got a bit out of control and we nearly ran the risk of being able to make wallpaper out of all the prints I wanted to buy. Luckily I lost my job when I did.

I have a hard time editing out cute things.

IMG_6844

Do you know that Peanut has an entire drawer of cute hats and shoes?!

IMG_6846

Baby boy clothes and accessories really have come a long way. I've been lucky enough to inherit a good amount of clothes from friends and family. Yay for boys older than mine!

IMG_3193

After a lot of going back and forth we ended up getting rid of B's old bed. Guests who come will have to rough it on our deluxe air mattresses and couch space. We promise it's comfortable! Really, the only people that stay over are B's friends and they could roll a sleeping bag out on the porch and be fine. Not that I would do that, I'm just sayin'.

IMG_6852

Here is the after...

Lovely crib, compliments of my parents! It's one of those convertibles that becomes a toddler bed with a railing and then a full size bed frame later on.

IMG_6853

More artwork purchased from etsy, pictures from our engagement session and possibly my favorite piece of art... the bee made by a very special little girl.

My dad glued it to foam board and then cut it out with an exacto knife.

IMG_6855

Do you remember the trip China Town for paper lanterns? Well, here they are. I just bought a ton and then my mom and I stood there asking my very patient dad to switch them around until we came to a decision on what looked good.

IMG_6861

On the other side of the room we have more storage for Peanut's books, some of his toys and his DVD collection. Yes, he already has DVDs.

I love that when he gets older I can display his favorite books in hopes that he'll make his way over and pick one out for us to read.

IMG_6863

Wow. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and this belly just doesn't seem real.

Hello, Peanut are you ready to come out?

IMG_3179

Our apartment is actually a dual master so Peanut has his own bathroom. This is the blah-before.

IMG_6866

Here is the revised Peanut potty room. The curtain came from Urban Outfitters, the B washcloths we found at Home Goods and the rubber ducky was a gift and it says hot on the bottom if the water is too hot for the baby.

Oh and I love the Skip Hop Hare set which is the little bunny whose ears are actually a brush and a comb and whose face is mirrored underneath.

IMG_6869

That concludes Peanut's room tour! The above mirror and Farmgirl Paints original artwork is in the hallway between our two rooms. The mirror was already up and the peanut picture was just so perfect below it, announcing the entrance to Peanut's wing.

For now it's just sitting and waiting for it's ruler!

Peanut's Room, Part One

IMG_3186

Here is a before shot of this wall. It's the first thing you see when you walk into the room. At this point we were already starting to clear out the guest room/library/junk room.

IMG_6821

We're technically all ready over here at Casa Clapping. My bag is packed, there is a checklist on the door (do we have the bag, cord blood banking kit, camera, etc) and we have the nursery done.

I wanted something modern and fun without being to baby-ish.

IMG_6821

I found this bicycle at Ross and loved add little touches of things B and I like to the room.

IMG_6876

I snuck in a fairy and I love this little mushroom house I received from a friend so many years ago. She brought it back from Lithuania and it looks adorable with a little candle light in it.

IMG_6827

We bought this at Ikea and everything displayed has been given to us for Peanut.

IMG_6824

The vase holding the lamp is actually a gurgle pot that I haven't had the chance to use as a pitcher yet. We had to include some pictures of our favorite pup aka my sister Gingerbread.

IMG_6825

These vintage flash cards are from etsy. I had been checking them out and was bummed when they were immediately sold. Months later my mom surprised me with them! I tend to send her links to all the adorable things I find on the internet and she knew I would hesitate to get these.

I just love them and think they would be great displayed around a room. Who knows maybe in the next reincarnation of Peanut's space.

IMG_6828

Who recognizes that snow tiger?

IMG_6823

I like to switch out knobs to give the furniture a more unique look. I picked up this one at Anthropologie and thank goodness I only needed one because I really can't afford to buy more than one knob at a time there :)

IMG_6873

The little owl on the left is from a salt and pepper shaker set. I just don't really use little salt and pepper shakers so I bought it to display as a single piece instead. They came from Pier 1 for less than $5.

On the right is a retro gravy boat. Don't ask me why I have a gravy boat on the shelf. I've picked up a few of these pieces at estate sales and have 4 matching plates that I love. The boat and the plate under it are one piece and I thought about putting a plant in it or storing something clever. Ideas?

IMG_3190

This was the corner of the room. Notice the hideous apartment blinds that are still a part of every room in the house. We're not supposed to remove them but my mom convinced me to break all the rules.

There was once a table in that corner but my mom stole it and had my dad cut off the legs to make this kids table.

IMG_6829

We took that corner and made it into a little rocking/reading nook. B & I really wanted room for both of us to sit in here at the same time. Since we removed the guest bed this seemed to work best for us. A double wide modern glider would be cool (if it existed and existed at a reasonable price) but I really like this set up.

Both chairs are from Ikea (one previously owned) as well as the throw blanket, the bicycle pillows on the left were made by me and the one of the right is from etsy.

More of the Peanut's room found here!

Little Pieces

IMG_6483

The days are buzzing by and we're in a flurry of preparations. This nesting stuff is serious business. There are lots of little things to get together. There are lots of big things to get together.

Things like buying a vehicle, right now, so that we can bring Peanut home from the hospital. I'm pretty sure the hospital won't let us throw him in the back of the Tacoma, car seat or not.

IMG_6486

I just had my baby shower Saturday (which I will share with you) and I've done some shopping this weekend and I'm ready to pull together the nursery.

I love this beeboyjoy picture by Kil.sook. It's even better in person. Her illustrations are unique, sweet and unconventional. Plus, the names of her illustrations make me laugh.

Something about this one reminds me of B. I think it's because he would totally stand there wearing a sock monkey on his head if I asked him to and his stance and expression would be the same.

There are all kinds of cute ones like this and this (which has a cute little saying/poem/tangent underneath it).

B & I are so looking forward to our baby bee boy.

IMG_6489

Wise old owl. I've been picking up little things here and there for a long time and unearthing them and putting them on shelves has been fun.

This child is going to have a library of his own soon. There just can't be too many books. They are on shelves, in bins, in the closet, in the cubbies. Oh the books we'll read.

IMG_6488

Excuse my absences on your blogs while I rush around to tidy and clean and nap and clean and decorate and buy and organize and wash.

The Braxton Hicks contractions that are happening so often now are a nice reminder that this baby is coming... and soon!

To grandmother's house we go!

IMG_5994

My parents are just the tiniest bit excited about Peanut's arrival. The plan was/is that they would have the Peanut during the week while we are at work.

So my mom started planning the nursery immediately. Actually, thats not exactly true. You see those adorable posters above the crib? Those were purchased in San Francisco for the nursery. The day I announced my pregnancy my mom pulled them out of the closet and the nursery transformation started.

She pulled them out of the closet because she already had them!!

IMG_6013

This entire nursery was completed by my fourth month. It was once a den, guest room and computer room. The furniture was moved out and the walls repainted.

Years ago this was my room.

IMG_5997

We found these baskets in white at Home Goods and my mom painted them to match the room.

IMG_6001

FYI: the baby's name is NOT Stanley. If you have a Stanley or are married to a Stanley understand that it's not a bad name... it's just not our name.

My parents (and everyone else) were/are getting a bit anxious to hear the name of the baby. We're 99% sure of it but I worry that at the last minute I'll change my mind so I haven't commited.

On a trip to Sacramento we were walking thru a shop when my dad noticed a basket of name plates. They weren't hanging in alpha order like you usually see, they were just thrown in a basket. So my dad announced that whatever name he pulled out would be the name of the baby.

They have been calling him Stanley ever since.

IMG_6003

I think you've seen this before but I can tell you more about the pictures. They come from a children's book line called Rip Squeak and were originally owned by a husband (illustrator) and wife (author) team.

We fell in love with the stories and illustrations.

IMG_6002

Apparently there is a family discussion about whether this is a dinosaur or a dragon.

I'd like to put it to a vote. What says the blogosphere?

IMG_6006

I dream about holding a warm baby, fresh out of the bath and wrapped up in a soft towel.

IMG_6009

We're getting so close!

At least we know that my parents have a nursery ready. We, on the other hand, have very little ready. I have my big shower on October 2nd and I'll be shopping and finishing the nursery after that.

IMG_6019

Until the Peanut comes Gingerbread will make sure and take care of grandma and grandpa's nursery. She is pretty darn sure it's all for her anyways.

The search for modern nursery furniture

owls sky crib set

Very much like my wedding I have an idea of the style I'm looking for in a nursery. Apparently it's a little off the norm as far as nurseries go.

Now that we know the baby is a boy I've started mulling over my decor ideas. I'm a bit of a style spaz when it comes to what I like. I call it eclectic. I've realized what I'm most drawn to in mid-century modern decor. I like mod but in a warm and inviting way. I like quirky and mismatched but I think you alrady knew that. Add in a few vintage and retro finds and I'm a happy girl.

Quite a few of you are familiar with Apartment Therapy but have you ever been on ohdeedoh? You must tour their kids rooms! I've looked at all of them...all the way back to 2007...for inspiration.
mod crib 899
So I started by looking at modern cribs and found two things. 1. Mod furniture is not as easy to find as you think and 2. It's not the norm for nurseries so it can get crazy expensive

Shown is the Oeuf Crib for $889. I'm guessing Oeuf is name of the sound that came out of my mouth when I read the price tag... like the sound getting punched in the stomach.
mod crib1 400
Don't let the simple lines and starkness throw you... nurseries are supposed to be fun and mine will be no exception.

This is the Babyletto Mercer crib and it converts into a toddler bed for $399.
piedmont
Realistically I think I'll be forgoing a real mod crib for a nice clean-lined convertible like this Davinci Piedmont crib.

It converts from this into a toddler bed and then into a twin frame as well for about $236. I mean.. it converts into a full scale twin size bed!
oeuf birch 1100
I'm really loving the 2-toned details on these dressers although I had my reservations about it only being wide enough for the changing pad.

Also by Oeuf for....wait for it.......$1100. But I think we should get it because those little legs on the bottom must be made of platinum.
babyletto dresserchanger 399
This Babyletto Modo dresser is suddenly looking extremely thrifty at $399!
ikea dresser
I'm thinking that this Ikea dresser will be perfect with a changing pad on one side and room for necessities on the other. Twice the amount of dresser for $199.
changing tray 310
I had to just throw this picture in because I make myself laugh. The front is made of walnut and I thought it an extremely good deal at $310. Made by Spot on Square this eco-friendly dresser is actually $1290... the changing table attachment is $310.
dwell gio 360
On to bedding... this picture and the one on top are from Dwell Studio who I adore. I love the clean style, crisp color and mod repeated designs.

I just don't want to spend $360 for a crib bedding set.
circles
Luckily they also make DwellStudio for Target. I'm loving this circle and dot design and praying that it becomes available again.

I think it will go perfectly with the mod dot and bicycle theme I'm planning in my head.

Did you have a style or theme for your baby's/kid's rooms?
