Pete's Cafe and Bar

IMG_5830

My mom and I ran around LA yesterday after work and stopped into Pete's Cafe and Bar.

Pete's has great downtown historic charm with the tile floors, dark wood and exposed ceiling. I love seeing the beams and pipes running overhead.

They also have a nice bar and are open to 2 am. B used to live walking distance from this restaurant.

Days like this I really miss living in LA. We loved all the access to amazing restaurants open at all hours.

Can you believe we used to go out to eat at 1 am when we got off work? Its not uncommon for there to be restaurants that are open until 3 or 4 am.

I went to the restroom and when I got back mom had decided what we were going to have. We usually split two entrees.
This is the Ahi Tuna Sandwich.

I love how they stack them up.

Seared rare ahi steak, daikon sprouts, mixed greens tossed in a sesame rice wine vinaigrette which added a bit of sweetness and wasabi mayonaise with just the tiniest bit of heat all on toasted herb focaccia bread with a side of taro chips.

It was soooooo good.

How cute are these light fixtures?! You could totally make those and sell them on Etsy for a huge profit. You could.

This is the Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
Can you see how juicy the chicken is?
Its topped with Provolone cheese, sauteed spinach, kalamata olives, sultanas (which are a type of white seedless grape/raisin- see the fun things we learn!) and a ginger curry aioli.

So delicious!

Oh but I saved the best for last.

Blue.Cheese.Fries.

Creamy. Decadent. Healthy (because it has tomatoes on top)

I think we know how I feel about blue cheese... how do you feel about blue cheese?

  1. I shouldn't have skipped breakfast. Never mind the light fittings, who'll sell those sandwiches (internationally) on etsy?

  2. When I saw the first picture, I honestly thought those fries were pasta salad - a nice sandwich and pasta salad combo. At no point before the end of the post did it occur to me that fries could look like that!

Both sandwiches look amazing ... I'd love to jump through the screen right now and have a bite or ten!

Blue cheese? I'm not a big fan, but I would like to have a taste of the fries ... just about anything and good fries are yummy!!

  7. Oh yum, looks heavenly! I'm still craving cherry pie from your last foodie post and even looked for some at the store to no such luck. Do you know you are torturing me?

  8. Dude, I was great until the blue cheese fries...

I find blue cheese repellent in every way, but I'm glad you enjoyed it! ;)

  9. Dawn,

I think I would have to pass on the fries but I know that my hubby would absolutely love these!

Love all that unique vintage stuff. My oldest daughter in high school is getting back into vintage stuff and loves everything you've been sharing.

  11. I have a love affair with blue cheese that started when D introduced me to it. O.M.G. Now I have to go to LA just for this reason alone.

  12. Those fries look like a heart attack on a platter. I have never seen anything quite like that. Looks like a yummy pit stop...not a meal to eat at 1:00 in the morning though. Imagine the dreams you'd have:)
