It's a Girl!
I'm not normally one for advertising smoking. But this is something entirely different. This is so much more than that.
This is ceremonial. This is a rite of passage.
What you see here are my brother, my dad and my husband ~giggle~ smoking cigars from the day I was born.
You read that right. These were the It's a Girl cigars my dad passed out 30 years and 3 months ago to celebrate my birth.
At first I didn't know what was going on until I heard people rushing around. "They're smoking them! They're smoking the cigars! Get your camera! "
Thank you Sherri for catching this!
Here I am asking B if they are making him sick yet.
We thought they might desintegrate or blow up when lit.
This is B making a sick face. My dad had saved 2 cigars all these years with the intention of smoking them with my new husband on the day I got married.
After careful consideration he decided to do it the day after... just in case it didn't go well. We don't want an injured and sick groom. My brother also had one and brought it as a back up. He got the honor of smoking a 30 year old cigar as well.
I guess its really, really official now!

I love that your dad saved the cigars from your birthday in the hopes of sharing them with your husband one day. That is just so super sweet of your dad. What a romantic. :)
ReplyDeleteAny chance he might have a bottle of fine vintage wine set aside for you too?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love your Dad!! Wish I had thought of that for our girls! : )
ReplyDeleteNow just how sweet is that ... Your dad saving those cigars all these years. What a sweetie he is! How much he loves you!
ReplyDeleteWhat is there about cigars? Before all of the smoking bans in public places, I detested the smell of cigars! Ugh! But occasionally our boys will go out on our back deck and celebrate something with a puff or two on a stogie. A weird, but momentous way to celebrate. Male bonding. Good for your dad, and your HUBBY and your brother to celebrate you!
Dang, you're making me cry!
ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to tell you how precious, how full of love I found this tradition to be. I say tradition, I guess because I certainly hope it will become one for you and B. How much you must have felt your Dad's love and all his hopes for you. How precious this must be to you.

What a cool idea! I can't believe he saved those for all these years. :-) Cigars aren't as bad as cigarettes-at least you don't inhale them. Good call Dad, for waiting just in case B got sick!!
