First off this post is total nonsense. But since 95% of my posts are, I know you'll forgive me. I've recently been reunited with a dear friend. We share a love for an award-winning, highly nominated movie that will go down in history as a classic.
Except for the award-winning, nominated and classic part. Although, it does involve both David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly?! Oh and Jim Henson and George Lucas! That has to count for something.
Jennifer Connelly plays an overly dramatic teenager who wishes her baby brother away to the Goblin kingdom and then of course, changes her mind. Sarah has 13 hours to make it through the Labyrinth to save her brother from becoming a goblin. You can already tell its a classic.
I love the characters she meets. This is The Worm. He has like 2 minutes of fame but he is one of my favorites. And this is Hoggle. Gotta love grumpy Hoggle. But I have another reason for pointing him out.
Who decided to put a man in thin grey spandex pants for a kids movie?! Granted, kids probably wouldn't notice "it".
But there is a particular scene in which Jareth (David Bowie) is talking to Hoggle who happens to be waist high. I remember when we got older and ~gasp~ noticed the wenis shot right there in our innocent movie. Yes, I said wenis.
It still makes me giggle. How mature am I?
Other than that short but unfortunate oversight it is a fantastic 80's movie. Has anyone seen it? Anyone?
Sorry I couldn't find a clearer trailer... You'll just have to watch it yourself. Or perhaps play it for your kids :)
He He He He!
ReplyDeleteNever saw it ... or IT... but makes you wonder if the sensors got caught up in the movie so much that they weren't paying attention!
So funny, Dawn! Thanks for the laugh ... I may have to go out and look for the movie!
Hahha, you said wenis! I haven't seen the movie and now I might have to. (Not to see the wayner, just out of curiosity to see an old flick).
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately or fortunately I don't think many have seen it. But when I googled fo pictures apparently other people noticed...
ReplyDeleteBut its a cute movie!
Ohhhhhh trust me.... they notice! haha! I LOVE this movie! I used it in the classroom this year with my 8th graders.... all they talked about was the spandex! (They had to create a new cast using present day celebs. It was to teach characterization. They had to use actors/actresses that could truly portray the characters. Most of the kids thought Jim Carey would be the best for Jareth, though I'm not so sure I agree. For Hoggle... Vern Troyer, and for the girl, Miley Cyrus or Vanessa Hudgens...)
ReplyDeleteLove "Labryinth". But, I loved "Legend" even more!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!! That was Jennifer Conelly??
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was her favorite performance!
ReplyDeleteKnow what's disturbing? Not the fact that I totally fell in love with David Bowie because of this movie, but that MY DAUGHTER DID TOO.
ReplyDeleteMade me feel old, but it sure was a bonding experience!
An inappropriate bonding experience, perhaps, but all the same...
Eee squee, I love that movie!! *bounces up and down* And yes, I did notice that *ahem* aspect of the film, but eh, I still love the movie. And David Bowie and Jennifer Connely aren't bad either. :D
ReplyDeleteUgh!!!!!!!! No im a teen and i say there is no reason to change the cast come on.. Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens. And i like Jim Carrey but he should so not be Jareth David Bowie was the best ans he always will be!!!!!!!!
