computer sadness

IMG_2548

My computer just died.

I had problems yesterday with hard drive space.  I just got a message that there was hard drive failure.  Now it just keeps running a program that tries to fix the failure but isn't able to and wants to repeatedly reboot.  Then it just shut down.

Luckily I backed up everything last month onto an external hard drive.  I won't pretend to know how to work this external hard drive as everything converts to files I don't understand.

My main concern is my videos.  On the external hard drive they all look like snapshots.  Oh well, at least I have my info and I'm sure I can take it somewhere to figure out my next step.

I sort of knew that my computer wouldn't last much longer but it's just never a good time to fork out money for a new computer, you know?

I need internet access.  Need.  I don't have a smart phone so a computer is my only option.

Am I the only one without a smart phone?

I'm using B's computer right now and I'll be honest.  This laptop sharing doesn't work that well for us.  I don't really know how to use his and he doesn't really share his toys well :)  We also don't like to take turns.  I suppose this should teach us how to share and be nice!

On the bright side, this should really motivate me to get my blogging done in the morning while B is at work and maybe I can get other things done in the evening while Peanut is sleeping.

Do you have one household computer or do you have more than one?

P.S.  Go back up your info! Back up your blogs while you're at it.  It's really easy to do- just export it to your computer.

P.P.S.  Somedays can only be made better with babies and doggies.

Dandy Baby, a baby food blog

IMG_3421

Well, a few days ago I decided that instead of boring you to death with baby food recipes I would just start a new blog for it. I haven't decided yet whether I will try to gain some traffic on it or if it will be more of a personal recipe file but it's out there now.

I know that some of the lovely ladies (and gentlemen) of the recent baby boom will or have been making some baby food and I'd love to share recipes with them. I'd also love to hear what you all are making. (hint, hint)

As of today I've just transferred some previously posted recipes but I'll be adding recipes weekly, at the very least.

Soooo, if you feel the urge, I'd love for you to stop by Dandy Baby and visit!

An intro to finger foods

IMG_3967

The other day we decided to let Peanut try those little puffs of whatever they are.. you know, the ones that supposedly dissolve in their mouths.

It started with a painfully slow and frustrating lesson in dexterity.

Those little suckers really stick to those chubby little fingers of his.

Picnik collage

You try and try to get those near your mouth and then they stick to your chin.

Mom, where is that thing I wanted to put in my mouth?

 It's on your chin, darling.

Here let me help you with that.

Picnik collage

See isn't that better?

No dear, you're supposed to suck on it... smoosh it in your mouth... eat it.

Is it sticking to your lip?  What are these things made of...glue?

Let me help you again.

IMG_3975

Really? Why are you making that face?

You don't think twice about trying to eat my shoes and you make that face with something completely edible.

IMG_3976

Wait a minute.  Where did it go?

Did it dissolve already or did you just push it to the back of your throat?

IMG_3977

Huh.

I think I got my answer.

Well, that went well.

Maybe tomorrow we'll try sandwiches.

One-on-one with the grandparents

IMG_3999

B's parents came out for the weekend and spent some nice quality time with the Peanut. It was actually the first time they had him all to themselves. The other times they've seen him they had to share him with other relatives.

IMG_3992

Although Peanut hadn't seen them since February he went right to them. Boy did he bask in the grand-parental love.

I was able to piddle around my incredibly clean apartment (thanks to my mother-in-law who cannot stop cleaning) and do things like read and craft. 11 hours after they left I wondered how I managed to dirty the place up already.

I fit in 2 different baby-free outings with my free childcare. To be honest, I had already committed to my outings and B had to work all weekend so we didn't spend much time with all of us together.

I would have felt bad but I have a sneaking suspicion that they didn't care where we were as long as the baby was with them.

Peanut was a good boy despite his eye and ear infections and his cold with crackly cough. He's either a really happy baby or he paid attention when I told him I'd serve him nothing but gerber's green beans for a month if he was bad.

I believe all technical issues have been remedied and my impromptu blogging break is over.

How was everyone's weekend?

Commenting Issues

IMG_3917

We're off to pick up B's parents from the airport but a quick note before we head out...

I've had problems commenting on some of your blogs and have been told some of you are having problems commenting on mine. It seems to only be an issue for blogs without the word verification, which is ironic as I chose it to make it easier for you to comment.

Becky from Farmgirl Paints let us know that if you unclick the Keep Me Signed In box when logging in it seems to work itself out. It's worked for me and I'll just do that until blogger works out the kinks.

Peanut's very cute donkey shirt was provided with love from my peeps over here!

Seriously, just ignore my child and enjoy your meal.

IMG_3884

Due to some technical issues at home I've only had internet for about 30 minutes since Saturday. At first the withdrawals were killing me and then it was rather nice.

I read 2 books, cleaned the apartment and watched my baby grow.

Peanut is just so cute and adorable. At least we thought so until we took him to a restaurant today.

Normally he'll get a few smiles from people near by but today he commanded the attention of every table around us.

You see, my sweet little child is a loud pooper. I mean, he reeeaaaalllly grunts. He has since the day he was born. I have on video him grunting while he poops on me just minutes after his birth.

But today, today was incredible. People were turning around to look at him. I only glanced back once but there were 3 different tables that had stopped eating and were looking at him.

I hope the sound of him pooping didn't kill their appetites.

To back me up.. here is a pooping/grunting video from April.

This was nothing compared to the drama of today's poop but I think you get the idea.

Sushi anyone?

Mealtime mess

IMG_3871

Before feeding Peanut solids I was getting my practice by feeding my great-nephew Daniel his food.  I figured I would be more prepared having had quite a bit of practice.

Of course I was wrong.  Where Daniel sits still, completely focused on his food, Peanut is turning to look at the ceiling behind him, the floor, the wall, a shadow, all while kicking his legs constantly.

Daniel holds his hands to the side, opening and closing them as a sign he wants more but won't grab for fear it may delay the food from going into his mouth.  Peanut grabs at the spoon, smacks it, lunges forward to gag on it or puts his fingers in his mouth immediately after taking a bite.
Sometimes it takes 2 people to feed him.  He has always been the laziest eater ever.  He would rather we play/eat constantly all.day.long.  We've considered strapping him into a forward facing position.

IMG_3877

Oh and he has figured out how to reach back and undo his bibs.  I do have one that snaps and he pulls on it until he looks like he is about to pass out from self-strangulation.

Breakfast is usually the worst, with the shortest attention span, then it gets better throughout the day.

Sometimes I don't even attempt to keep him clean.  You can see the mixture of prunes and apples all over his face, slicking down his hair and it's even in his ears.

He has a habit of rubbing, scratching, pulling on his ears.  He always does this after sticking his hand in a mouth full of food.  I've had them checked and the doctor confirmed it's just a habit that might be from previous eczema.

Can rotten prunes in the ear canal cause infections?
