I found these over a year ago at an antique store and immediately fell in love. I bought them one at a time with the intent of getting a set of four. I was told to check back for more silhouettes, styles and colors.
Unfortunately after purchasing the second one I witnessed the owner being judgmental and rude to a person in the store. I vowed not to step foot in there again...and I haven't...but I still wish I could get more of these prints!
These prints hang on the wall above my dresser. Sometimes as I head out the door after pulling my hair into a pony tail and de-smudging last nights make-up, I think about how life/fashion/expectations have changed over the years. These women would never have left the house with a belly band holding up their unzipped pants, whilst sporting the world's ugliest uggs.
I can just imagine this dress in striped taffeta with velvet trim.

I'm not familiar with the year these were done or International Studios itself. A few google searches and I found several NY based International Studios (of Art, of Music, etc). A search of the address and I found that there is currently a textile designer at the same address shown.
The 2nd time around I was looking for a completely different garment silhouette and model pose but I couldn't help becoming attached to this one.
It's something about the color in her hair, the expression on her face and her red lipstick. I'm a sucker for red lipstick.

I think we should name them. As I'm currently preoccupied with the daunting task of naming my first born child, I would prefer you name these two leading ladies. Could you?
What names do you think fit Lady #1 and Lady #2?
I'm all for Madge and Millie!! :) Gotta get the alliteration thing happening.
ReplyDeleteJune and Pearl, such classy ladies. Though I see nothing wrong with going around wearing your pants unzipped. With my first I was in maternity by 14 weeks, so I understand, this time I'm just being stubborn. I need one of those bella bands, because the pony tail holder I'm using is NOT classy.
ReplyDeleteMillicent (but she answers to Millie) for #1 and Arabella (Belle?) for #2.
ReplyDeleteSophia and Frances:) Love that old classy style. Can you imagine looking that way today?? Definitely wouldn't have the time to blog:)
ReplyDeleteThese are so much fun, I love that classy very lady like style, if I had the time and money I would wear a vintage dress every day and do my hair, but I live in the real world and de-smudging my makeup is more like it while I throw on flipy flops and a pony! ha...love that!
ReplyDelete#1 - Frances
ReplyDelete#2 - Lorraine, because she looks like HHBL's great aunt who was a model in NYC in the 1930's. She was GORGEOUS.
Oh I could come up with a bunch of old lady names having been a geriatric rehab therapist. I will throw out 4 picks: Eve, June, Adelle, and Sally!
ReplyDelete#1 Sophia
ReplyDelete#2 Genevieve
I'm thinking Gloria and Stella.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why.
Of course, knowing the women of that generation (my grandmother) they all had names like Irene, or Mabel, or Thelma. And a lot of them went by their middle names. My grandmother is Myrtle Irene, and goes by Irene. Nice, eh?
I would have to say, Abigale for lady # 1 and Audrey for lady number 2!
ReplyDeleteLove all this vintage stuff. I will have to send you some pictures my brother is doing of 1940's WW2 and old style classic Hollywood stuff. You'd love it.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
Delilah & Elouise. Delilah seems a little flirty, she likes to have a good time. Elouise however, is very sharp, and doesn't put up with a lot of crap.
ReplyDelete#1 reminds me of Rosemary Clooney. #2 should be June.
ReplyDeleteI like Mabel for #1 and Maxine for #2.
ReplyDeleteI know this is a really old post, but I thought you might find it interesting that I also bought some sketches from the same batch! Check them out on my blog: http://katejones.me/ Did you ever find out anything more about International Studios? :) Kate
