Happy Cinco de Mayo! It only seemed fitting that I pulled out this post. It's been waiting to make its debut. A few months ago my mom, sister and I ended up at ChaCha's in Brea.
Here you see the cocktails we tried. No, I'm not drinking while pregnant. Actually.... I was. This dinner was the night before I found out I was pregnant.
I had the sangria and it was so fantastic... I had another one. I had 2 cocktails and luckily didn't pickle the baby.
Also pictured in the tall glass is the ChaCha Margarita. But I didn't have any. I heard it was very good.
You see, tequila and I had a bitter break-up my freshman year of college. We still haven't made up and don't ever intend to. Ever.

So I'll have to take mom and sister's word for it. They declared this Mango-Habanero cocktail the winner of the evening.
The Ceviche... oh this ceviche. You must love, I mean love lime to like this ceviche. Intense citrus, shrimp, serrano chiles (but not too much) and avocado.

I want this right now.
Queso Fundido. It was very tasty but it's a get in and get messy type of appetizer. The cheese was one solid mass of melty goo and I had to actually stick my tortilla in and tear off the cheese. I would do that for cheese.

At first I didn't realize that a previous boss of B and I is running ChaCha's. The restaurant business is both large and small.
This is honestly the best carne asada I've ever had. It was so incredibly packed with flavor. The skirt steak is marinated and then topped with chimichurri sauce and cooked to perfection.

ChaCha's considers itself "Fresh California-Latin" cuisine and I definitely agree.
This was my favorite dish. I'd like to formally introduce you to the crab and shrimp enchiladas. There is a good amount of crab and it's all sauteed in garlic, white wine and poblano pepper. What really makes this stand out is the creamy habanero pesto sauce.

Oh yeah, you heard me. Don't let the habanero part scare you... it's really not too spicy at all.
Mom had the carnitas and shrimp tacos but I was so full I only managed the tiniest of bites. Packed with flavor as expected.

The owner insisted on us trying this flan...even though the thought of eating another bite was just mind numbing.
Somehow I managed to just try the flan. I wasn't too interested because although I do like flan, they've all pretty much tasted the same.
This flan is not the norm. It was so incredibly creamy we all just couldn't stop eating it. I think B and I will be making a stop here very soon.
Any Cinco de Mayo plans?
ummm, I have no idea what cinco de mayo is! Oh no, is that terrible? What I do know is that it's a month till my due date... whoop! (yes, I am now at the stage where I can't think of anything except babies!)
ReplyDeleteWhen will I learn not to read your posts before breakfast. Soooooo hungry now.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to celebrate Cinco De Mayo with a margarita, but I am attending a school function. A teacher with alcohol on her breath is never a great idea at school. Your pickling the baby comment cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE mexican food. That all looked sooo amazing. Too funny about tequila. For some reason a margarita is pretty much the only drink I'll ever try. I actually like the taste of it. But it really doesn't take much to feel the room spin and I hate that, so I don't drink them very often at all:)
ReplyDeleteOh mercy, crab and shrimp enchiladas? Yes please. Gooey mooey queso? Uh huh. Drool, drool, drool.
ReplyDeleteI'm making mushroom fajitas tonight, with some fresh whaccamole, so we can open our bag of organic tortilla chips and consume. Simple, but the way to my man's heart is by fajitas - and there's a long list of honey-do's I'd like for him to start on, so, y'know. It's all about the agenda...
Whew! That all looks so good! Jeff and I need to go out on a date so we can eat at a place that offers more than just hamburgers! I love Mexican food! Happy Cinco De Mayo to you too!
ReplyDelete☺ Celeste
If I lived in Brea I'd have plans! Sadly, I don't so perhaps I'll have to settle for some coronitas and costco tortilla chips. I don't think there's any "ariba" in that. :-/ ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I read this post, and the bridal shower/dessert post, and I'm CRAVING all of it!
ReplyDeleteALL. OF. IT.
And I live in the middle of farm country in Podunk, MN. So. Food like that is just nowhere to be seen. Unless I make it myself. And at this point I'm too ravenous to really take the time to make anything good.
It's o.k., though. Even though I'm frustrated that I can't devour any of it, it's inspiring to see all that tasty food!
(I'm trying to look at the positive here.) ;)
UM-Um-Ummmmmm! Love that Mexican food!
ReplyDeleteWe went to our local mexican restaurant ... had part of a chimi!!! YUMMMY!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
ReplyDeleteThat shrimp and crab enchilada looks divine!!! And with creamy pesto sauce, too?! I want one. Please?
Oh my goodness that is a lot of food! It all looks so delicious. I've been reading a lot about Cindo de Mayo but have never heard of it before today. I guess we don't celebrate that here in Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place. I will have to check it out. I love mexican, can eat it every night. As for me..guess where we went for cinco de mayo, The Winery in Tustin. Not a typically May 5th spot, but I was just excited to go out with my hubby alone. He had a work function and I got to join him. But I am telling you all this because the appitizers we had were amazing. Have you eaten there before? hope all is well with you and the baby :)
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, ceviche. :) Thanks for sharing that!!
ReplyDeleteYUM YUM YUM!
