I discovered Phil Hansen a couple of years ago and was totally amazed and impressed by the way he creates his art. He has a vision of the finished project and then he completes it.
He will paint, bike, place, write or karate chop his vision and it won't necessarily be in the order you expect. He might start from the left and work to the right without sketching anything out.
Its fascinating and quite hard to explain so I'll show you. Here are some of my favorites:
I have a poster of this and its fascinating to read.
We have a copy of this too. B loves Bruce Lee and I'm thinking of decorating his man cave.
He is painting upside down on his own body! He clearly looks at things differently than I do. Its like he sees the shape of things with no regard for the conventional top, bottom, up, down. He just creates.
His art doesn't stop there. He works with wood, Starbucks cups, eaten food (eek), blood (taken by his nurse sister-in-law), matches and dandelions (shown on the Mother Theresa artwork).
Apparently he has just set up an installation in Berlin. I'm so very excited for him!
I feel the need to create something. I have always felt that pull but never found anything that really suited me. I'm still looking.
Do you ever get that creative bug? Do you paint, sew, write, cook, photograph, dance? How do you create?
Well, you've created a blog with a recognizable voice and a droll and reflective style, so that's pretty creative. I guess you could try making a pompom too if you really wanted to push the boat out.
ReplyDeleteI try to create Order. That's not easy. One day maybe you'll have small children and you'll remember these words...
That's the craziest thing. Wow.
ReplyDeleteWOW, those were so much fun to watch. You're right, he definitely sees things different, and amazingly so! I'm not a real creative type, but I do my best with cooking and photography. Two things I enjoy, so that's all that matters!
ReplyDeleteThat was a-maz-ing! Seriously my face was pressed up to the screen in wonder. What a true artist!! I love to create...but for me it doesn't come naturally. I struggle to get started and then am never fully satisfied with the end result. Thanks for sharing that...wow:)
ReplyDeleteNo way! I though only I knew who Phil in the Circle was...you do too! He is really amazing...each of his new projects amazes me.
ReplyDeleteI think some artists see things so differently then most, and in that they are amazing!!! he is one of them...I have always wanted to create too, but when I do I usually never like what I do...so I write, blah blah blah!
ReplyDeleteHello Dandy,

I guess my creative outlet is blogging and writing right now. I would love to explore photography a bit more when I have the money to invest in a really great camera.

Wow, thanks so much for sharing those! How amazing! His perspective and visual-spatial methods are amazing. While it's cool to watch in time lapse, I wonder what he does as prep work? Like several of the above comments, I love art but don't feel "artistic."
ReplyDeleteI love to sew, but am totally an amateur. Thank you so much for entering my giveaway! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOMG!! He is amazing! How on earth does his mind think that way? I have trouble drawing a stick figure right side up, but less Continuous works of art on my tummy that is upside down!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have found my creative chord in the camera. Love it!
That guy is ridiculous!!! That's so amazing! My creative outlet is scrapbooking.
ReplyDeleteI wish I were more creative. I like to write, but sometimes am unsure of myself, regarding motivation, etc. I enjoy taking pictures but don't know what the heck I'm doing.
ReplyDeleteThe things I'm good at creating are: frustrating circumstances, and precariously placed piles (of just about anything, from papers to laundry...maybe even a combo). These things aren't very helpful in the world in general, though, so I'm looking into some others areas in which to hone some skills.
